Six Don'ts for Using Drone Battery

1. Don't overcharge when using the drone battery

There are requirements for the charger in this condition. Some chargers have imperfect power off function after being fully charged, which will lead to the fact that the single-chip battery will not stop being charged when it is fully charged at 4.2V. In addition, some chargers are prone to the power off problem after being used for a period of time due to the aging of components and parts. Therefore, when the prone battery is charged, someone must take care of it. When it is found that the charging time is too long, it is necessary to manually check the charger for failure. If so, the battery should be unplugged as soon as possible, or the damage of drone battery over-charge can range from affecting the battery life to direct explosion and fire.

What should be additionally reminded is that the battery must be charged in accordance with the prescribed charging capacity or lower charging capacity of the battery, which should not exceed the prescribed charging current.

2. Don't over-discharge when using the drone battery

The discharge curve of the drone battery shows that the voltage drops quickly at the beginning of discharge, but the voltage drops slowly when the discharge reaches 3.9 - 3.7V. However, once the voltage drops to 3.7V, the drop speed will be accelerated, so at this time, poor control will lead to over-discharge, which will damage the drone battery and even cause the explosion of the drone if the voltage gets too low. Some players will discharge the battery excessively in every flight because of the fewer batteries in the waterproof fishing drone, which will make the batteries short-lived. The strategies are: try to fly one minute less every time, so the battery life will be prolonged for one more circle; It's better to buy two more batteries than to push the battery beyond its capacity every time; Make full use of the battery alarm, and land the drone as soon as it alarms.

3. Don’t preserve the drone battery with a full charge

Fully charged drone batteries cannot be preserved for more than 3 days. If they are not discharged for more than a week, some batteries will bulge directly. Some batteries may not bulge temporarily, but after several times of full charge preservation, the batteries may be scrapped directly. Therefore, the correct way is to charge the battery after receiving the flight mission. If there is no flight mission within 3 days after the battery is used, please charge the single-chip voltage to 3.80 - 3.90V for preservation. It is also necessary to discharge the battery to 3.80 - 3.90V within 3 days after being charged if the drone is not used due to various reasons. If the drone battery is not used within three months, charge and discharges the battery once before preservation, in this way, the battery life can be prolonged. The battery should be stored in a cool environment. For long-term storage, it is better to put the battery in a sealed bag or sealed explosion-proof tank. As for the storage environment, the recommended ambient temperature is 10-25℃, and it should be dry and without corrosive gas.

4. Don't damage the cover of the drone battery

The cover of the drone battery is an important structure to prevent battery explosion and liquid leakage fire. The aluminum plastic cover damage of lithium polymer battery will directly lead to battery fire or explosion. The battery should be handled with care. When fixing the battery on the aircraft, the tie should be tightened. It is possible that the drone battery will be thrown out due to the loose ties during large dynamic flight or aircraft crash, which is also easy to cause damage to the battery cover.

5. Don't let short circuit of the drone battery occur

Short circuit often occurs in the process of battery welding line maintenance and transportation. A short circuit will directly lead to battery ignition or fire explosion. When it is found that the drone battery is broken after being used for a period of time and the wire needs to be rewelded, special attention should be paid not to contact the positive and negative electrodes of the battery at the same time. In addition, during the transportation of batteries, the best way is to put each battery in a self-sealing bag and put it in the explosion-proof box, so as to prevent short circuit caused by the contact of positive and negative electrodes with other conductive materials at the same time or cover damage due to bumps and collisions during transportation.

6. Don't make the drone battery in a low-temperature environment for a long time

Many players will ignore this principle. In high altitude areas, low-temperature weather often occurs. At this time, if the drone battery is placed outside for a long time, its discharge performance will greatly reduce. After that, there will be problems if players still want to make the drone fly at normal temperatures. At this time, the alarm voltage should be increased (for example, the single-chip alarm voltage should be adjusted to 3.8V), because the voltage will drop very fast in a low-temperature environment, and the drone should land as soon as the alarm rings. Moreover, the drone battery should be kept in a warm environment before taking off, such as in the house, in the car, and in the incubator. Install the battery quickly when the drone takes off and perform the flight mission. The flying time at low temperatures should be shortened as half as it flies at normal temperature to ensure flight safety.
